Performing arts are very much at the centre of school life and attract students of all ages, interests and backgrounds with the opportunity to perform in public, to develop their creativity and to grow in confidence as individuals.
The school perform drama productions, musical concerts and dance performances at QE throughout the year. They are of an extremely high standard and form an invaluable part of the performing arts experience at the school.
Drama and Performing Arts
Drama and the performing arts programme are housed in beautiful purpose-built accommodation and makes use of the King’s Theatre, which is a professional, 330-seat venue for performance.
A popular subject it also provides numerous opportunities throughout the year for students to perform in smaller productions as well as a large-scale whole school production, senior and King's Magna productions, as well as the House competition as part of the wider QE community.
Many students have gone on to great success from their drama and performing arts studies securing places at RADA, LAMDA, AMDA and the Central School of Speech and Drama, and into the theatre and television industries.
Music is very much at the heart of Queen Ethelburga's and works closely with performing arts as an important element in the school’s creative arts provision.
Like many creative subjects, it is introduced very early in school which encourages an appreciation of the learning and performance of music from a young age.
As students progress through the key stages, they learn more about instruments, music and performance both as solo performers and as part of an ensemble.
We encourage students to work in analogue and digital media and to appreciate a wide range of musical styles to develop skills not only as musicians but also to appreciate the beauty of music and the benefits it can bring as a global language.
Music is delivered in spacious and well-equipped accommodation by a range of teachers and peripatetic staff who are all experts in their specialist area, be that composition, performance, digital music or musical theatre.
The musical performances of students throughout the year are exceptional. They act as an inspiration for others and form an invaluable part of the creative arts experience at the school.
