For over 100 years, Queen Ethelburga's has welcomed all children from an Armed Forces background in the UK to stay at QE as part of our boarding school.
We are proud to support forces families, and currently have over 200 boarders from military family backgrounds.

Prioritising the Wellbeing of Forces FamiliesStability is incredibly important for children from military families, and our Wellbeing Team are here to support every student's mental health and resilience, including a Forces Liaison Officer. The Liaison Officer runs a weekly Forces Club for younger children to meet each other. The team also helps students contact deployed parents who may be abroad. The Wellbeing Hub is always open to any student in need of emotional support or a chat over a hot chocolate. Our Peer Mentor Scheme connects students with older students from a Forces background. Older students provide support and advice as someone who has had the same experience. |
Why Choose QE For Your Child?
Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA)
We offer a reduction in fees for children of serving members of the British Armed Forces. Those eligible for Continuity of Education Allowance will pay £1,575 per term in 2026/2027.

Supportive Boarding School Environment
We provide a home from home for over 200 children whose parents travel frequently or live overseas for work, including military families.
Students from Forces families benefit from the stability and routine that boarding at Queen Ethelburga's provides. Our dedicated House Parents organise a wide range of evening and weekend activities, creating a welcoming and supportive environment. They also help younger children stay connected with their families by arranging regular phone calls with parents.
At weekends, children can visit their parents, relatives, or friends with parental permission, offering valuable opportunities to spend time with loved ones while enjoying the security and continuity of boarding life.
