Performing Arts at King’s Magna

At King's Magna, pupils can take part in a wide range of performing arts lessons, co-curricular activities and performances, including the annual events: Gym and Dance Display, Dance and Drama Festival and Speech Day.

Lessons are taught by specialist performing arts teachers and cover a variety of dance, drama, comedy, and musical theatre. From Year 6, there is the opportunity to take two additional enrichment classes within the timetable, with one option block allowing for additional performing arts classes.

Students with a passion for the arts can take additional LAMDA lessons, participate in Drama and Dance clubs and perform in annual school indoor and outdoor shows. In addition, our on-site 312-seat professional venue, King’s Theatre, hosts an academy of performing arts group on Saturday mornings.

Gifted pupils can showcase their talents in school assemblies and can enter local and national competitions in a variety of performing arts disciplines. They can also undertake our Academic of Dramatic Arts Performing Arts (ADA) Pathway from Year 7 upwards. This pathway allows them to hone their skills in acting, musical theatre, comedy, stage combat, and a variety of dance styles, with extra time within their day allocated to the arts. The pathway also offers extra support with auditions, profiles and headshots, as well as how to carve out a path beyond school in their chosen field.

Performing Arts Across The School

Our King's Magna pupils are inspired by the vast amount of performing arts activity on-site, whether through senior performances, the national accomplishments of our older students, or through projects like the Year 12 choreography for our hit song music video, ‘Feels Like Home’.

Dance

Outside of the PE curriculum, King’s Magna students can learn different dance styles across a variety of co-curricular dance lessons. Within the enrichment timetable, dance classes include a competition for Years 8 and 9 and a show choreography.

To complement their dance lessons, pupils can attend open dance studio sessions or join in with gymnastics, trampolining or cheerleading clubs.

Drama

For those interested in co-curricular drama, there are several timetabled sessions for school production rehearsals, LAMDA lessons and ADA sessions.

On Saturdays, our professional theatre venue hosts King’s Academy for the Junior Performing Arts sessions (up to Year 6) and for Seniors (from Year 7 onwards). Students can complement their drama sessions with a variety of extra-curricular music activities.
