Welcome to Queen Ethelburga’s International Summer School
Our Summer School for international students showcases the best of British boarding school life at an award-winning independent school. Based in North Yorkshire, UK, QE's International Summer School is for students aged 7 to 17.
Our four-week UK International Summer School programme includes:
- Three weeks of English language learning
- Plus, one week dedicated to a specialism: football, cricket or forensic science.
Queen Ethelburga’s sits on a beautiful 220-acre countryside campus near York, and close to Leeds and Harrogate. Since 1912, it has been a welcoming and successful school community. Students can enjoy learning English in the UK with experienced teachers and modern facilities. They can join fun activities and explore British culture while studying at our International Summer School.

Tuesday 30th June - Tuesday 21st July 2026 Younger learners spend the morning learning English, and the afternoon at Camp QE. Students will have at least 10 hours of English learning per week. Prices start from £3,100 |

Tuesday 21st July - Tuesday 28th July 2026 Aspiring footballers receive professional coaching from the Mike Phelan Coaching team. Open to both international and UK students. Prices start from £620 |
| Summer Cricket Camp (Ages 10 to 17) |
|
Tuesday 21st July - Tuesday 28th July 2026 Aspiring cricketers will train with professional coaches from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Athletes will develop their cricket technique and match strategy. Open to both international and UK students. Prices start from £620 |
| Forensic Science Camp (Ages 13 to 17) |

Tuesday 21st July - Tuesday 28th July 2026 Students step into the world of crime-solving and investigation through hands-on workshops. One day includes a full-scale interactive crime scene. Prices start from £620 |

Morning and Evening Activities
Days at our UK English summer school start with optional sessions such as yoga or crafts. Our Welfare team also runs mindfulness workshops designed to support confidence and wellbeing.
After dinner, students join fun social sessions to meet new friends and converse in English. Evening activities include music, sports, team games, swimming, yoga, baking, and more. There’s also exciting entertainment like outdoor theatre shows, movie nights, and themed parties.

Cultural & Educational Trips
Students enjoy a mix of trips to culture-rich cities - the perfect way to experience life in England while practising English outside the classroom.
There is one trip per week, included in the course fee. To enjoy all destinations, we recommend staying for the full four-week international summer camp.

Two Days / One Night Day One - Oxford Discover the historic city of Oxford with a guided walking tour, visit the impressive New College, explore the Oxford Botanic Garden, and see the world-famous University of Oxford. Day Two – Blenheim Palace & Bicester Village Visit the magnificent Blenheim Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where Harry Potter fans can see the famous "Harry Potter Tree." The trip includes free time to explore and shop at Bicester Village. |

Full Day Discover the charm of York, often called the Northern Capital of England. Visit the National Railway Museum, Museum Gardens, York Castle Museum, and shop at the famous Shambles. |
| Week Three - London |
|
Two Days / One Night Day One Experience the magic of London's West End with a performance of Matilda the Musical. Discover some of the city's most iconic landmarks on a walking tour, including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, Big Ben, and the Houses of Parliament. Day Two Spend the day exploring London, with time for shopping on the famous Oxford Street. Explore the British Museum and take a scenic River Thames cruise from Westminster Pier to Tower Pier, passing some of the city's landmarks along the way. |

Full Day Depending on your chosen camp, you’ll explore the city’s football or cricket heritage, or visit the Science and Industry Museum. |

All international summer school students have exclusive access to QE’s world-class campus, featuring:
- Swimming pool and ice baths
- Gym and free weights area

Our Sports Village is recognised across the UK, attracting top teams such as Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal for training.
Boarding
Our modern on-site boarding houses include ensuite bedrooms, comfortable social areas, and shared kitchens. Juniors (Ages 7 to 13) stay in accommodation designed especially for younger students, with age-appropriate supervision and support.
There are chill-out spaces, a wellness room, study pods, and an open-plan dining area, helping every student feel at home. Our dedicated boarding team is available 24/7 to make sure each student is safe, happy, and comfortable during their stay.
Welfare and Safeguarding
We take student welfare very seriously. Each student is assigned a personal tutor who checks in regularly, supported by our Welfare and Boarding Teams.
We provide 24-hour supervision, on-site first aid, and access to off-site medical care if needed. Students can also join daily wellbeing activities to support mental and physical health throughout the summer.

Frequently Asked Questions
| Do you provide airport transfer? |

Yes! Students arriving at or departing from Manchester Airport on the specified arrival and departure days can request a free transfer, subject to flight times. Students arriving or departing on different days, outside of these times, or to/from different airports will need to organise their own transfers. Transfers are only available to students attending the Summer School. We are unable to accommodate family members or agents. |
| Are there any extra costs? |

No – our International Summer School fees are fully inclusive. Although students may wish to bring pocket money for souvenirs or personal spending. |
| Can you help with Visa Support? |
| Yes, we can! Once the fees are paid, we will provide a Visa Support letter to assist with your application. |
| What level of English do students need to have? |
| Students must be able to communicate their needs in English; this is to ensure their safety under our care. All courses and activities are taught in English. |
| What if students are already fluent in English? |
|
Fluent students are very welcome to join! Please contact us to discuss alternative course options. |
| What dates can students arrive/depart? |
|
The International Summer School runs for three weeks of English learning, followed by an optional week of specialist camps. For Junior or Senior International Summer School:

| Can students pre-book a trip? |
| Trips are included in the price, so there’s no need to pre-book. To attend all four trips, students should stay for the full four weeks. |
