At Chapter House Reception, children are encouraged to discover, imagine and grow.
Our Reception classroom is a warm and inspiring environment where curiosity leads the way. Natural resources, cosy reading and home corners, creative spaces and imaginative role play encourage children to explore, create and learn through purposeful play.
Children also make regular use of our dedicated outdoor classroom, extending their learning through hands-on exploration, imaginative play and discovery. From investigating the natural world to solving problems together, outdoor learning nurtures curiosity, resilience and confidence.
Every space is thoughtfully designed to encourage independence, communication and a sense of wonder.

Learning Through Curiosity
Our Reception curriculum is shaped by children’s interests, questions and experiences. Learning is responsive and meaningful, with opportunities inspired by the seasons, festivals, cultural celebrations and the world around them.
Alongside child-led learning, children enjoy daily Drawing Club, Phonics and Mathematics sessions, building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while developing confidence and independence.
Movement For Learning
Twice each week, Reception children take part in Movement for Learning sessions based on the Pat Preedy approach. Through engaging, structured activities, children develop balance, coordination, core strength and body awareness, supporting the physical skills needed for concentration, handwriting, reading and readiness to learn.

Reading with Our Wellbeing Dog
Reading is a much-loved part of the week, particularly when children spend time with our gentle Lhasa Apso reading dog. Calm and patient, our four-legged companion provides a relaxed environment in which children can enjoy stories and develop confidence in reading aloud.
