Parent Communication

Keeping Parents Connected at Queen Ethelburga’s College

At Queen Ethelburga’s College, a leading independent senior school near York, we understand just how important it is for parents to stay informed and involved during the critical examination years.

That’s why we prioritise strong parent-school communication, ensuring you are connected to your child’s academic journey at every stage.

Supporting Parents Through Key Stages Four and Five

Graduation Service and Speech Day are our biggest events in the year for parents to attend.

Key Stages Four and Five are a pivotal time in your child’s education. Whether they're preparing for GCSEs or A-levels, we know you want to be kept in the loop. That’s why we offer:

  • Regular Parents’ Evenings with form tutors and subject teachers
  • Termly academic reports, including current and predicted grades
  • Newsletters and updates celebrating student achievements
  • Invitations to parent events such as Bonfire Night, Speech Day, and College Sports Matches

All of these efforts are part of our commitment to transparent, timely, and meaningful parent communication in senior school education.

Accessible Communication for All Families

We believe that great communication shouldn’t be limited by distance. That’s why:

  • All Parents’ Evenings are hosted online, ensuring our boarding school families and international parents can take part from anywhere in the world
  • Parents are always welcome to speak directly with teachers via phone, email, or in-person meetings
  • Liaison Officers are available for international families, including fluent speakers of Chinese, Thai, and Russian

Our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all parents can feel involved in their child’s education, no matter where they live.

Keeping You Updated on Progress

Throughout the academic year, you will receive three termly assessment statements, which include:

  • Academic performance and effort grades
  • Predicted outcomes
  • A full written report from the teaching staff

These reports help you track your child’s progress and understand how best to support them at home, especially during exam preparation and revision periods.

Celebrating Student Success

We’re proud of every student at Queen Ethelburga’s, and we make it a priority to share their achievements with you. Each term, Miss Blakeley, Head of College, sends a newsletter celebrating the latest good news stories from around the College.

From sports and performing arts to academic milestones and community service, we believe in sharing all the moments that make QE life so special.
