Why should I train at QE?Our Initial Teacher Education (ITE) programme is the first of its kind, offering trainees unique, independent school-focused training and experience. Working closely with the University of York, one of the top ITE providers in the North, we provide trainee teachers with the highest standards of training, mentoring, and support. All members of the QE community work towards the Hill Standard: “To be the best that I can with the gifts that I have”. This extends to every aspect of our provision, including ITE. Our programme is designed to give you the best possible chance to succeed, fostering a spirit of excellence in teaching. |
What is the Schools, Community and Society provision?
The Schools, Community and Society (SCS) provision is unique to QE. The curriculum is designed with the independent sector in mind, offering valuable insight into areas such as:
- Working in an international setting
- Supporting international students
- Global educational cultures
- Supporting EAL learners
Each session is held at QE in our bespoke Training Academy, a dedicated venue for adult training, education, and development. Our training team upholds the highest ethical and professional standards, ensuring you receive an authentic and credible learning and assessment experience.
How do placements and mentors work at QE?
As a trainee on the QE PGCE Pathway, one of your placements will be guaranteed at Queen Ethelburga’s. Your second placement will be at one of the University of York’s excellent state school partners. Throughout both, you will be supported by QE staff, and from day one, you will know your QE subject mentor, regardless of when your QE placement takes place.
Our mentors embody the spirit of ‘excellence in teaching’ and are specialists in their fields. They have completed advanced coaching and mentoring training that goes beyond the standard PGCE requirements.
“Completing one of my PGCE placements at QE before starting here made the transition into my first teaching job smooth and manageable. The support I received was consistent and effective, with the entire department invested in my success. The ITT and later the ECT community at QE enabled me to support and be supported by peers, share good practice, and build strong professional relationships across the school.”
