Top Yorkshire Independent School Celebrates Outstanding A-Level Results
Students and staff at Queen Ethelburga’s, a leading Yorkshire independent school, are celebrating today after achieving another exceptional set of A Level and BTEC results, reflecting the hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment of the entire school community.
QE is one of the most popular independent school choices for families across Yorkshire and beyond, with nearly 500 day students and 800 boarding students.
This year’s cohort has achieved an impressive 77% of students attaining A*-A grades and 91% securing A*-B grades, continuing Queen Ethelburga’s strong tradition of academic excellence.
Students achieved a variety of high-profile first-choice university places at institutions including Imperial College London, London School of Economics, Durham, Bath, Sheffield, Nottingham, and Cardiff, alongside other excellent UK and worldwide universities.
Daniel Machin, Principal of Queen Ethelburga’s, said:
“We are incredibly proud of our students. As this year’s cohort includes a huge number of pupils who have been with us since prep school, alongside recent starters who have made a fantastic contribution to school life. These results reflect their determination to make the most of all the opportunities available to them. Thank you to our dedicated teachers and the support of families, without whom none of this would have been possible.”
An Exciting New Chapter for QE
From September 2025, the Queen Ethelburga’s community are excited to unite the ISA Independent School of the Year (QE Faculty) and the leading school for academic results in the North (QE College) into one exceptional senior school: Queen Ethelburga’s College.
This new senior school for Years 10 to 13 sits alongside Chapter House Preparatory School and King’s Magna Middle School on our modern, well-equipped campus close to York, Harrogate and Leeds.
QE College brings together the very best of what is offered across the two current senior schools. Students can create their own personalised programme of study with an unparalleled mix of academic, vocational, sporting, performance, and creative opportunities for all students.
This announcement comes hot on the heels of The Telegraph naming Queen Ethelburga's as the Best Value Co-Educational Private School in Britain. The school continues to excel as the top-performing Yorkshire independent school.
