Spring Season: Final Update

Spring Season - Final Update

Q-Esports has submitted a senior team for the first time ever in the Daigon Minecraft World Championship qualifiers. With two wins under their belt, the job was simple: one more win, and we would qualify for the World Championship finals.

Our opposition? The Centennial Barons, a team from South Africa, have absolutely demolished every opponent they faced.

It was close. It was tactical. It was gritty.
It was also an absolute deadlock: 0–0.

Minecraft Capture the Flag is simple: the game lasts 20 minutes. If the scores are level after that, there's a five-minute overtime. If it’s still tied, the team with the most kills wins.

I kept flicking my eyes to the kill count. Our opponents were consistently ahead by just one kill. This could be heartbreaking.

Captain Selim had masterminded a defensive masterclass. Nobody was getting through, and bear in mind, we were facing a team that routinely crushed others by 10 points or more.

Terrence provided a running commentary from the top of his tower, calling out enemy movements, and the defence responded. Impressively, it was Felix (who’s been at QE for the shortest amount of time) who was the most vocal, barking orders and organising the defence, letting Terrence know the exact moment to let fly with his bow and arrow.

It worked perfectly. The highest scorers in the league couldn’t break through.

Mr Luxford helping the team win the Minecraft Esports final.

With three minutes to go, still 0–0, it looked certain to come down to kills. And we weren’t going to win that way.

Then Selim and Isaac headed forward as the clock ticked down to the final minute. Isaac slipped into the enemy base from the right-hand side, unnoticed, and grabbed the flag. Lovely, but it had happened before. All escape routes were guarded. No way out.

Then something unexpected happened.

Selim took down one of the players guarding the main exit, and an incredible long-range shot from Terrence took out the other in one hit. Isaac saw his opportunity. With the three remaining enemy players in hot pursuit, he raced toward the QE base. Arrows flew past his head. Two players with swords were right behind him.

I have never felt tension like it.

Somehow, they were running faster than Isaac. Felix flew out of our base and took one down. Isaac dodged one last shot, sprinted into our base, and calmly placed the flag.

Three seconds later, the game ended.
1–0. Q-Esports victory.

The cheers in the room were deafening; you could hear them from outside the building.
We. Had. Done. It.

We close the season, for the first time in Q-Esports history, as league champions.

Both our Senior and Junior teams have qualified for the World Championships - the only team on planet Earth to have two teams qualify. A brag, but not mine: Captains Emily and Selim, and the amazing teams they lead, deserve every bit of the credit.

What a way to wrap up the 2024–25 Esports season.
