Autumn Season 2025: Esports Week One

Autumn Season 2025: Week One - Q-Esports are back!

Here we go with another Q-Esports season! Characteristically, it’s going to be the biggest year yet. More students are desperate to be involved. Our offerings have expanded yet again - we now have a King's Magna and Chapter House Minecraft team (and it’s been tough to keep it to just two teams; interest has skyrocketed following our extraordinary success in Malta), two Valorant teams, an F1 team, and a Rocket League team - all representing the school in national and global competitions.

These reports will be difficult to condense because every time a team sits down to play, I have multiple amazing stories to tell about the conduct, performance, resilience, and work rate of our students. I’ll try to give a brief summary of each team that has played each week and highlight any particularly standout performances.

Valorant B: 13–1 win over Nottingham Nighthawks

A completely brand-new set of players in our Valorant B team this year! The selection process has been a headache for me in the best possible way. So many fantastic players, all vying for a position and bringing amazing personalities and unique approaches to the game.

This group had their first opportunity on Wednesday to show what they had to offer, and oh boy, did they! Great communication, creative gameplay, and a very professional result. Look at that: 13–1. We don’t get ahead of ourselves or lose sight of the objective — we dispatch teams coolly and professionally. A brilliant start.

Rocket League: 4–0 win over Princethorpe Pythons

Our inaugural Rocket League team has picked up exactly what it means to be Q-Esports: announce yourself loudly on the national stage with a thumping win over Princethorpe College.

Captain Carter led his team to a brilliant victory. We love starting the season with a win at Q-Esports, and Carter, Felix, and George are no different. Their communication is fluid, controlled, and upbeat — it’s fantastic to see them in a match.

When winning, they remain professional and calm; when under pressure, they stay composed and positive. The maturity shown is outstanding. Felix at the end said,

“We’re going to make the school proud of us this year, sir.”

I hope I may speak on behalf of the school for just a moment when I say that with an attitude like that, we already are.

Minecraft Chapter House: 1–1 draw with Fulham

The youngest ever Q-Esports team gets things started! They’ve been so enthusiastic and excited for this match, diving in with very little knowledge of the map or some of the quirks and dynamics within the gameplay that are second nature to more experienced players.

They fought to a tight 1–1 draw with Fulham School, and we already have some really bright stars coming through in that team. Lynx and Izaak hit the ground running and were the breakout stars of the game, but I’m absolutely delighted with how everyone performed, and I’m excited to see more from this group in the future!

A huge shout-out to new Minecraft Seniors Captain Felix for helping to manage the team and offering tactical advice and guidance. And the entire Juniors team was present to cheer them on — heroes!

Even better, when I dropped them back off to be picked up, their classmates all raced towards them to cheer and ask how they got on. Get used to the feeling of celebrity, team — our esports players always become well known around the site, and quickly!
