Scholarships

There are four types of scholarships you can apply for at Queen Ethelburga’s: Academic, Sports, Music and Drama.

Please take our quiz for each below to see if you are eligible for a scholarship.

Scholarships are available to UK students who have a gift in academics, sports, music, or drama.

Criteria

Academic

Are you a UK student entering Year 12?

Are you expecting to achieve seven or more grade 8/9s in your GCSE examinations?

Do your school reports demonstrate an excellent approach to learning, high achievement, and a strong academic curiosity?

If all apply, please contact our Admissions Team to begin your application process. 

You will be asked to provide two recent school reports from your current school, take a CAT4 test and to attend an Academic Scholarship Day at Queen Ethelburga’s. On the day, you will be expected to:

  • Deliver a 5-minute presentation on a topic of your choice to a member of the Strategic Leadership Team;
  • Sit two one-hour GCSE-level scholarship papers in the subjects of your choice;
  • Attend a few lessons to experience school life at Queen Ethelburga’s.
Sport

Are you a UK student entering Year 7, 10 or 12?

Is your chosen sport one of the following: basketball, football, cricket, netball?

Do you already represent your county, region, or national team in your chosen sport?

Do your school (or club) reports show a positive approach to sport AND wider learning?

If all apply, please contact our Admissions Team to begin your application process. 

If you qualify, you will be asked to attend a Sport Scholarship Day at Queen Ethelburga’s. On the day, you will be expected to:

  • Take part in a practical assessment and a physical test with the Head of Sport and/or sports coaches to assess current fitness levels
  • Attend an interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team
Drama

Are you a UK student applying for a day place?

Are you entering Year 7, 10 or 12?

Do you have significant experience as a solo performer?

Do you have a school report (or other references) that demonstrate a positive approach to performing arts AND wider learning?

If all apply, please contact our Admissions Team to begin your application process.

If you qualify, you will be asked to attend a Drama Scholarship Day at Queen Ethelburga’s. On the day, you will be expected to:

  • Take part in a drama workshop alongside other students and a senior member of the Performing Arts staff. In the workshop, you will be tested on your teamwork, creativity, and imaginative thinking skills through improvisational tasks
  • Perform two monologues – the first should be from a published piece, and the second is a monologue you have written based on a book or story
  • Bring a review you have written of a live theatre production
  • Attend an interview with the Theatre Director to discuss your monologue performance and experience of drama and the theatre
  • Attend an interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team
Music

Are you a UK student applying for a day place?

Are you entering Year 7, 10 or 12?

If you are applying for Year 7 or Year 10: Are you Grade 4/5 in at least two instruments or one instrument and voice?

If you are applying for Year 12: Are you Grade 7/8 in at least two instruments or one instrument and voice?

Do you perform in your current school band, orchestra and/or ensemble?

If all apply, please contact our Admissions Team to begin your application process.

If you qualify, you will be asked to attend a Music Scholarship Day at Queen Ethelburga’s. On the day, you will be expected to:

  • Play two contrasting pieces, one on your main instrument (or voice) and the second on the other instrument
  • Take a sight-reading test and an aural test
  • Discuss your musical passion with a senior member of the music staff
  • Take part in an interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team
