Netball

Netball at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate

The netball curriculum is designed for all abilities and to encourage students to play for fun.

From Years 3 to 13, students can also play netball as an enrichment activity during lunchtime or after-school. These sessions offer the opportunity to learn and enjoy the basic, fundamental skills of netball.

Facilities

QE provides a total of 14 high-quality netball courts across campus: 10 outdoor and floodlit courts, three indoor courts and a full-sized international standard court with ample spectator seating.

Play Netball Competitively

Students can take part in competitive netball at all levels and an extensive fixture programme of matches against local and regional schools and clubs. At the senior level, there are higher-level fixtures against other schools in local, regional and national tournaments.

We offer one-to-one coaching, strength and conditioning programmes, nutritional advice, physiotherapy and massage to meet students’ individual developmental needs. Some take their training to the next level, enrolling on the elite Performance Sports Programme (PSP).

Meet the Coach

Mrs Wright has over 20 years of PE coaching experience and is working towards her Level 3 UKCC Coaching Award. Alongside her previous roles as Director of Sport in the North West and Surrey, Mrs Wright served as the head coach of St. Mary's University, Twickenham netball programme, assistant coach at The Downs Netball Club in the National Premier League, and Surrey Storm U17's. She has led numerous school teams to U14, U16, and U19 National finals, preparing athletes to progress through every age group.

Currently, she coaches on the England Netball performance pathway as the region's performance lead and at Leeds Rhinos Netball Franchise, a part of the Vitality Netball Super League since 2021.

In 2019, Mrs Wright was awarded 'Coach of the Year' by England Netball for her coaching achievements. She also serves as the head coach at a performance club in North Yorkshire, overseeing four senior squads competing in county, regional, and Northern leagues, as well as a thriving junior section across all age groups.

Partnerships

QE has close links with Netball Yorkshire. Several students attend the North Yorkshire County Pathway Programme during the winter, which is based at QE. In the senior school, many students are involved with Leeds Rhinos, Loughborough Lightning and Team Northumbria performance academies. Students also play against a few international schools when they tour the UK.
