Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

Modern Foreign Languages at King’s Magna

Modern Foreign Languages are taught by specialist, native speakers who have a passion for language learning.

Year 6

Year 6 pupils at King’s Magna have one hour of Modern Foreign Language (MFL) weekly. Students are introduced to French, Spanish and German lessons taught on a carousel rotation. Near the end of the year, students are invited to a five-day residential at Château du Baffy in France to practise their French and learn more about France’s culture.

Key Stage Three

In Year 7, students choose between French, German and Spanish to learn for two hours per week. As part of students’ timetabled enrichment activity, they may also take another language, with the additional option of Mandarin, taught by a native speaker.
Once in Year 8, students choose the language they want to study in Year 9 and at GCSE, including the option of Mandarin. It is also possible to take a second language in place of Creative Arts.
