The King’s Theatre is the hub of performing arts at Queen Ethelburga’s; a full scale professional venue with a seating capacity of over 300, which inspires in students a love of performing to different audiences.
Many of our past performing arts students have gone on to study at acclaimed drama schools such as the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, the New York Film Academy, the London Academy of Music and Drama (LAMDA) and the American School of Music and Drama (AMDA).

Inspiring A Love For Drama
Students in Years 6 to 8 study the key skills and techniques necessary to develop insightful and exciting theatre, in doing so, they develop confidence, teamwork and focus to be creative performers.
In Year 9, our students can select drama as one of their options with the focus on developing skills and the fundamentals of performance art in preparation for the GCSE years.
In Year 10-13 students can choose to study GCSE Drama, A Level drama or BTEC Nationals Level 3 in performing arts. Individual LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) lessons are available for Years 10-13, providing students with valuable skills in diction, communication, public speaking and characterisation of role.
King’s Theatre Opportunities For All
Beyond the curriculum, students can attend weekly drama, backstage and music activities, the latter of which range from a traditional orchestra, to school of rock and an iPad band. We stage three full scale productions each year; Sister Act, Snow White and High School Musical are just some of our most recent productions.
The King’s Academy
The King’s Academy for Performing Arts is a Saturday drama school. It is open to QE students and also to children from the local community, aged between 6 and 18. Saturday workshops are highly practical and are taught by industry professionals.
