Language Learning

Language Learning at Chapter House

Language learning at Chapter House reflects and celebrates our diverse community and is considered an important part of our curriculum, giving pupils breadth and preparing them for their future.

As standard, all pupils in Years 1 to 5 study Spanish and Mandarin within the weekly timetable under the tutelage of native speakers. Extra ‘power hour’ sessions are available after school and there are opportunities to converse with native language speakers higher up in the school.

Chapter House teaches two additional languages, Mandarin and Spanish, taught by native speakers.
Cultural Awareness

To supplement our language learning, Chapter House takes part in the annual Cultural Awareness Week to learn about Chinese and Spanish culture. Pupils also enjoy our Chinese New Year Celebrations every year.

Learning additional languages enhances communication skills, builds better cultural awareness and increases self-confidence. Students can progress with either or both languages to a good level of competency throughout King’s Magna and may choose to complete GCSE and A Level language qualifications in College or Faculty.
