King's Magna Reading

Years 6, 7 and 8 Summer Holiday Tasks

Summer Reading

King’s Magna believes in summer reading as a means to foster life-long learning, reinforce academic achievement and to promote reading as an enjoyable activity. This year, members of the King’s Magna prefect team have selected a theme for the Summer Reading Program. During the summer months, all members of the school community, students, teachers, administrators, and staff, are asked to read one book that fits into the theme for the coming year.

The theme for the for the Summer Reading Program is friendship.

For the Summer Reading book selection, students and families can select any school appropriate book of interest; the only stipulations are the book must be at least 50 pages long and relate in some capacity to the theme. We suggest that parents assist their children in selecting the book so as to meet his/her individual interests and strengths.

Summer Mathematics Skills Tasks

We are asking that each student spend at least one hour per week building his/her maths skills. We highly recommend students use the Mymaths website to complete this assignment but understand there may be limitations during the summer months prohibiting this.

Go to and login at the top of the page with the school’s username and password.

The school username is: Ethelburgas

The school password is: hawking

Summer Challenge Pack

In addition to the above tasks, the non-compulsory Summer challenge pack allows students the opportunity to continue developing skills in a way that is most appropriate for the student and family. For those students who do attempt one of the challenge pack activities, we would encourage them to bring their completed challenge into school to show their form tutor and Head of Year so that we can celebrate and share their achievement and award their 30-day Challenge certificate.
