Social Sciences

Social Science is one of the most diverse departments in the school, with subjects such as Business Studies, Economics, Law, ICT, Computer Science, Health and Social Care and Psychology.

The department consist of nine different subjects split over all key stages. There are a wide range of different types of qualifications with the department, from the more traditional A level and GCSE options to more vocational BTEC subjects, at Key Stages 4 and 5.

As well as the traditional subjects within the department there are fast growing subjects such as computer science; helping students prepare for the careers of the future. Information and communications technology and numeracy skills are embedded into all lessons within the department.

Students are challenged and are supported to thrive across all subjects, being actively encouraged to become critical learners and to look at and question the world in which they live in. Critically, they are encouraged to think from a global perceptive and become world citizens.

Throughout the programmes within social science students develop skills in: decision-making and problem solving; the quantification and management of information, and effective communication.
