From Student to Solicitor: Former QE Student Jade Inspires York Sixth Form Learners
An alumna returns to Queen Ethelburga’s to guide students through the many routes into Law.
Queen Ethelburga’s (QE) recently welcomed back alumna Jade, who spent the day inspiring our York Sixth Form students with her experience and insight into the world of Law. Having once walked the same halls, Jade’s visit offered a powerful reminder of how far dedication and ambition can take you.
Exploring Pathways into Law
Jade began her visit by meeting with Year 12 BTEC Law students, leading a lively discussion about the different routes available to those looking to pursue a legal career. She compared university degrees with law apprenticeships, weighing the advantages and challenges of both. Students gained a valuable, balanced understanding of how to enter the legal profession, whether through traditional study or more hands-on training.
In her second session, Jade worked with our early applicants, providing practical advice on writing personal statements, crafting strong CVs, and preparing for interviews. Her real-world experience and tailored feedback gave students a clearer sense of how to present themselves to future employers and universities. Guidance they described as “invaluable.”
Inspiring Future Legal Professionals
The day concluded with QE’s Employers Networking Evening, where Jade continued conversations with students, parents, and guardians about pathways into Law. She shared insights into how she found her passion for the subject, crediting a guest speaker during her own time at QE for inspiring her career choice.
Jade’s visit has come full circle; she will be returning soon to record a podcast, continuing her mission to inspire the next generation of legal minds at Queen Ethelburga’s. Her journey stands as a testament to the supportive and aspirational environment offered at York Sixth Form, where students are encouraged to explore, connect, and achieve their ambitions.
